Leigh Royal British Legion Table Tennis Club

The Leigh R.B.L. T.T.C., based in the village of Leigh, near Tonbridge in Kent, is a very active club, running teams in a number of Leagues at both senior and junior levels. It was formed in 1950 by members of the Leigh British Legion Club and entered the Tonbridge & District League, where it has been throughout and for the 2007/8 season is running six teams, with another two in the Sevenoaks League. Members also represent Tonbridge in the Kent League, and have travelled to play matches in Germany in Tonbridge's twin town of Heusenstamm.

Junior Practices and friendly matches are held on Sunday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 noon from September to March inclusive. Click here to email Andrew Everett about Junior Practices.

The club operates for both matches and practices in the Large Village Hall in the High Street at Leigh Table Tennis on the premises was first played in 1923 on a table made locally in the Hall Place workshops, with friendly matches played up until the start of the Second World War. We now have four first class tables acquired in recent years and a robot ball machine regularly used for practice and coaching.

The Club has had a fair share of success, with its 'A' team Tonbridge League Champions on many occasions over the last twenty five years, including 2006/7 and 2007/8. Individual success has also been achieved, with Juliet and Andrew Houghton playing internationally in the 1980's and Lawrence Healy umpiring an England Match.

Basically, the Club caters for all ages (as long as they are big enough to see over the table) and provides a community based activity through which many generations of youngsters have passed, with more than a few continuing, to the benefit of the Club's stability. The headquarters remains adjacent to the Royal British Legion Club.
